Microscopic airborne particles floating throughout your home have a negative impact on your health. As we leave the heating season and enter the summer cooling season, most of us do not think about insulation and how important it is to your cooling systems efficiency or your comfort. Being prepared for the hot summer by inspection your insulation situation can be as beneficial as preparing for winter.

Like most people, you’d probably like to save money on your household utility bills while enjoying comfortable indoor temperatures at all times. If you insulate specific areas, you are creating a protective wall between your home and the outdoor elements that effectively helps to reduce your energy usage. Most people are now aware that indoor air pollution is an issue of growing concern and increased visibility. Many companies are marketing products and services intended to improve the quality of your indoor air. You have probably seen an advertisement, received a coupon in the mail, or been approached directly by a company offering to clean your air ducts as a means of improving your home's indoor air quality. These services typically — but not always — range in cost from $450 to $1,000 per heating and cooling system, depending on the services offered, the size of the system to be cleaned, system accessibility, climatic region, and level of contamination.

If you decide to have your heating and cooling system cleaned, it important to make sure the service provider agrees to clean all components of the system and is qualified to do so.

In theory, programmable thermostats are a great way to save on home energy costs.

According to the Energy Information Administration, about 42% of home energy costs go to heating and cooling. A lot of that cost comes from heating and cooling empty (or unused) spaces, including heating and cooling while people are asleep. In plain English: People spend a lot to heat and cool their homes, and they're not good about turning things off when they're not needed.

Programmable thermostats help homeowners utilize energy-saving settings around the clock to encourage lower utility bills without sacrificing comfort. But you must know how to properly choose and use the programmable thermostat to ensure peak savings. Here are five guidelines to live by:

In the winter, you’ll want to set the thermostat back for a specific time...

You may use a whole-house humidifier to prevent damage to home products made of wood, encourage energy savings, or prevent health issues when the air is drier in the winter months. Regardless of your reason for having one, maintaining a whole-house humidifier is a necessary step, especially if you want to continue reaping its benefits and ensuring a good return on investment. “Humidifiers are commonly used in homes to relieve the physical discomforts of dry nose, throat, lips, and skin. The moisture they add to dry air also helps alleviate common nuisances brought on by winter heating, such as static electricity, splitting woodwork, and cracks in paint and furniture.” A humidifier has few moving parts, but because it operates with water running through it, one of the most significant and common problems many homeowners experience when using a whole-house...

We received a call to service a new furnace in someone’s home. Unfortunately for the homeowner, our technician identified the furnace as having been stolen from a builder’s home during construction. The new owner of the furnace purchased it in good faith on a popular on-line classified ad website and now needed it to be serviced. Airtron contacted the builder to advise them that we found their furnace, which was reported to the police as stolen months earlier.

Most people would never suspect that a furnace or air conditioner would be stolen in the first place so they may never give consideration to the possibility when making an on-line purchase.  New home construction...
